Mayor Melton admitted to Jackson hospital

Posted: Updated:

JACKSON, MS (WLBT) - Jackson Mayor Frank Melton is in the hospital.

He was admitted Saturday evening to Saint Dominic Hospital.

City Information Director Goldia Revies would not release any further details.

She says that would have to come from Melton's family or his physicians.

The mayor has a history of heart problems.

On Wednesday Judge Dan Jordan granted a one month delay in the Mayor's upcoming federal trial due to his health.

Court documents reveal the Mayor is in end-stage cardiomyopathy or severe weakening of the heart muscle.

In those documents, Melton's family physician, Doctor Robert Smith, described Mayor Melton as "critically" ill.

We will bring you the very latest on his condition as it becomes available.
