JACKSON, MS (WLBT) - It's bad enough that Garnice Lewis of South Alabama Street in Jackson has endured four break-ins in two years.
"Cut the screen, lifted the window up, come in, stole the games I had just replaced. An X-Box, a Playstation 2, Playstation 3, he stole all the tapes and stuff to go with that," she said.
But Lewis says the burglar is a family member.
"My house is the only one getting broken into over here, because my nephew's doing it," said Lewis.
Lewis tells 3 On Your Side she knows it's her nephew, because three boys who used to live across the street told her. The boys, the eldest of whom was nine at the time, say they actually helped the 22 year old break in, and they only told Lewis because they got mad at him.
Shattered glass littered the ground below a side window Wednesday, left over from last week's break-in and theft of two computers. The window didn't have burglar bars at the time.
"He stood on the grill, broke it, that's how he got in the window," Lewis says.
Earlier this year, an air conditioner was ripped out of a front window that also didn't have burglar bars before.
Lewis said she's called police each time, but all she gets is lip service.
"(They) give me a card, tell me the detective's gonna call me, on the air conditioner the detective called, said he was gonna come out, he did not show up," she said.
Lewis cares for her cousin's infant during the day, and she fears it's just a matter of time before someone gets hurt by the nephew, who used to live with her, but is now, Lewis said, strung out on drugs.
"I tucked him in, clothed him, fed him, made sure he took his medicine, (got) to the doctor, this is how he repays me. Stealing," said Lewis.
Jackson Police spokesman Joseph Daughtry says he's looking into the matter, and will get back with us.
