MAYO CLINICS (NBC) - A new study finds celiac disease is on the rise. Celiac disease causes damage to the intestines when a person digests a protein in wheat, barley and rye, causing diarrhea, abdominal pains and weight loss.
Researchers say the disease is four times more common than it was in the 1950's -- now affecting about one in 100 people. (Study led by researchers at the Mayo Clinic and published in the journal Gastroenterology)
