Homeowner Won't Be Charged in Fatal Shooting

Police say a Jackson man who shot and killed someone he thought was robbing him will not be charged.

According to police, the Rosehaven Drive homeowner was approached by two armed men around 1:00 Monday morning. The homeowner retrieved a gun and opened fire, killing Kenneth Stewman, 20.

We have learned that Stewman lived less than a block away. A family member says the Hinds Community College student would never rob his neighbor. They say the two men knew each other.

"(The homeowner) probably acted on impulse," said Stewman's sister, Kenya Stewman. "We've seen some strange faces around here lately, so we really don't know who's coming and going. And at nighttime, I guess you really can't distinguish if you really know somebody."

Kenya Stewman said police have not talked with the family about the incident.

The search for a second man continues.
