Forest Hill Football Player Killed in Accident

A Jackson high-school student was among the victims in a bad wreck Thursday night on Interstate-220. Seventeen-year-old Mario Whipps was a junior at Forest Hill High School.

Whipps, who played football at Forest Hill, will be remembered during tonight's home game against Mendenhall.

Twenty-four-year-old Emily Chelsey Irby of Jackson was also killed.

Authorities say 28-year-old Shawn Hynes of Little Rock, Arkansas, was speeding in the southbound lanes when he lost control, crossed the median. He hit the two cars Whipps and Irby were driving in the northbound lanes.

Hynes and his passenger, 38-year-old Darrien Williams, also of Little Rock, were injured. There's no word yet on whether Hynes will face any charges.

Ridgeland Police say none of the victims was wearing a seat belt.
