Jackson, MS (AP) -- 10 Fayette residents were released on their own recognizance today, following their arrests on charges related to the $150 million dollar verdict in 1999 in Jefferson County against the manufacturer of the diet drug Fen-Phen.
The ten ranging from ages 32 to 63 stood before United States Magistrate Judge James Sumner (Tuesday) afternoon on charges of conspiracy to commit an offense against the United States- to defraud American Home Products- the maker of Fen-Phen.
Two more Fayette residents will appear in court (Wednesday). If found guilty they could face up to five years in prison and or have to pay a $250,000 fine.
FBI Special Agent Bob Garrity says more people from the same area will be arrested on related charges.
