A pregnant Jackson area teenager, whose parents want her to have an abortion, has received a temporary restraining order to stop the procedure.
Attorney Michael DePrimo with the American Family Association's Center for Law and Policy in Tupelo says the 16 year old was scheduled to have an abortion Saturday at the Jackson Women's Health Organization.
Attorneys say the teenager contacted them to stop her parents because she wanted to keep the unborn child.
Friday Judge William H. Barbour issued a temporary restraining order to halt the procedure.
Deprimo says, "A mother's desire to protect her baby is among the strongest in life. While we are thankful the court entered the order, it is a sad fact that legal action was necessary to save the life of this unborn child."
Betty Thompson administrator for Jackson Women's Health Organization says, "If a woman, even a teenager says she does not want to have an abortion, no parent can make her have an abortion. She is dismissed if she says she does not want one."
A preliminary hearing will be held Monday in federal court.
