PEARL, MS (WLBT) - Traffic flow has resumed in all directions on Airport Road, in Pearl, following a gas line fire. The southbound lanes reopened just before 5pm.
Work crews shut off the gas flow to the ruptured line earlier in the afternoon and allowed the fire to burn up all the gas left in the line.
Pearl Police Department Public Information Officer Lt. Butch Townsend says a sub-contracting crew laying fiber optic cable hit the gas line and it ignited around 1pm.
Both Jackson Communications and Koch Foods were evacuated.
No one was injured, but one of the cable workers was taken to the hospital as a precaution.
