Maybe you saw it. Maybe you didn't. Thursday evening, members of the Missionaries to the Preborn displayed posters of aborted fetuses on County Line Road during rush hour. These graphic pictures created quiet a stir among motorists.
"The most unsafe place for children in America today is the womb."
That's what members of the Missionaries to the Preborn said through the megaphones Thursday afternoon during rush hour on the congested County Line Road. Some drivers honked at the demonstration in approval, but others were disturbed.
Sharron Robertson saw the display. She said, "I'm trying to go to Northpark Mall, and I saw the van on the side of me with all these pictures and the words on them. I said, 'Oh my goodness. I don't want Dyron to see that!' I said, 'Why's that man driving around with something like that!? And the further I got down the street, I'm like, 'What in the world are all these pictures!?'"
Pastor Matt Trewhella, leader of the group, says these protests are effective.
"The reason why we go out with these photographs is so people can see exactly what a pre-born child looks like after he or she has been in the hands of an abortionist," said Trewhella. "We want to be at a busy intersection so that as many people as possible can see what happens to a fetus."
"I'm not exactly--and I could be wrong, but that's not an appropriate picture to put on the side of the road," said Driver Christina Spafford. "But it makes the point that they want to make."
"I think they have a statement to make. The pictures are (appropriate)," said motorist Ruby Wright. "It really opens people's eyes to know the truth."
"Even people who are pro life, I think that's a little bit too much," said Kim Miller as she left a local business.
"Everybody has their rights and their opinions, but it's outrageous," said Robertson. "This does not make any sense at all."
"Just because someone was offended by your speech doesn't mean it's unlawful," said Pastor Trewhella.
"It should be nonviolent at all times at any protest at all," said motorist Bruce Bollman.
"How many accidents happen on County Line Road everyday? People's attention is over here," said Spafford. "They're not going to pay attention to what's in front. That's why I say it's way graphic."
"If I had known this, there's no way I would've been on County Line this evening," said Robertson.
The Missionaries to the Pre-born are on a ten-day tour of the Southeast called the "Show the Truth Tour." Members say they've been holding these demonstrations since 1996.
