WLBT 3 - Jackson, MS: Man doesn't show up for his own trial

Man doesn't show up for his own trial

Posted: Updated:

JACKSON, MS (WLBT) - A former Iraq military veteran who was shot 7 times the day after he returned home last March is waiting on a jury's verdict.

20-year-old Leo Wales was charged with armed robbery and aggravated assault.

But Wales is on the run and the trial goes on without him in Hinds County Circuit Court.

 A warrant has been issued.

The war veteran, Michael Robinson, was gunned down during an armed robbery in Jackson as he sat in his car with Terwanda Owens.

Robinson said Wales and co-defendant Neil Jackson stuck a gun in his face, stole $600 dollars and then began shooting him in the face and neck.

If convicted, Wales could face life behind bars on the armed robbery charge and 20 years on the aggravated assault charges.
