WLBT 3 - Jackson, MS: Jackson hosts HIV/AIDS town hall meeting

JACKSON, MS (WLBT) –The White House Office of National AIDS Policy chose Jackson to host an HIV/AIDS town hall meeting Monday night.
The community discussion allowed Mississippians to give feedback that will be included in a national strategy to end the HIV/AIDS epidemic.
It was held at the Jackson Medical Mall.
People living with the virus and state health officials offered their input.
Non- profit organizations from across the southeast participated.
Many asked for sex and STD education in the schools, more doctors and transportation funding in rural areas and health insurance.
"It's almost 10 to one funding when we look at HIV funding that comes to other areas than comes to the south and yet we have more people living in the south with HIV than any other region in the country. we have more people dying of aids than any other region in the country," said HIV survivor and activist Robin Webb with the Jackson based organization A Brave New Day.
Mississippi is one of six state to host a town hall meeting.
