ATTALA COUNTY, MS (WLBT) -  An Attala County Sheriff's Deputy is in the hospital after his vehicle slammed into a tree.  Attala County Sheriff William Lee says Deputy Jerry Erving was on patrol at the time.  Just after 1:00 a.m. Sunday emergency responders were called to the intersection of County Road 4167 and 4116.

According to Sheriff Lee Deputy Erving swerved to avoid hitting a deer, then overcorrected and hit a tree.  Deputy Erving was taken to University Medical Center with a broken leg.  He is listed in good condition.
