The first female attorney to be appointed in Hinds County was sworn in Monday.
Sherri Flowers took the oath of office at the Hinds County courthouse. A full courtroom looked on.
The Hinds County Board of Supervisors appointed Flowers in late October. She is taking over the position left by the county's newest circuit court judge, Malcolm Harrison.
Flowers has been the assistant county attorney for the last nine years. "As a female and someone who has worked with the county attorney's office for the last nine years, I think I have a special sensitivity for victims, so i'm excited about bringing that to the position that I hold," said Flowers.
Flowers was unofficially sworn in last week, and has already been working on cases.
