SUMMIT, MS (WLBT) - Thousands of soldiers from the Magnolia State have trained at Fort Hood in Texas from Desert Storm to Operation Enduring Freedom. Many of them still live and work on the huge military base.
Ara Love's daughter and son-in-law are in that group.
Love, whose mother lives with her in Summit, Mississippi says another relative stationed at Fort Hood was scheduled to be in the building where the shooting rampage occurred but did not go to work Thursday.
All are safe but Love and her mother say the events of the day have been very stressful.
"My family were very upset, but yes, they're frightened but the main thing they want to let us know was that they were okay and that was the main thing and so be letting me know they were okay, I felt better but I am very concerned about the families that are not okay," said Love.
"It shocked me; really did because, I mean, she's the oldest granddaughter," said Love's Mother, Mary Nell Peavey.
Love says she received a panicked call a relative was in the building where the shooting took place only to later learn that the family member had not gone to work.
