JACKSON, MS (WLBT) - Six public officials in Simpson County have switched from the Democratic party to the Republican party.
The new coroner in Simpson County is also a Republcan.
This has all happened under the leadership of state Republican Chairman Brad White who is from Simpson County.
"This is one of what I expect to be many times that we will come together to announce where we have had a county that has been Democrat controlled, and in one day, swap to being Republican controlled," said White.
The state's top Republican, Governor Haley Barbour, was present for the announcement. The governor pointed out that seven of the eight statewide elected officials in Mississippi are Republicans.
