HATTIESBURG, MS (WLBT)  - A Jackson doctor is among five people to plead not guilty to conspiracy to defraud Medicare and Medicaid.

Dr. Cassandra Thomas and four others were in U.S. District Court in Hattiesburg Wednesday.

A total of seven people are charged but two others had their arraignments delayed until next Tuesday.

An indictment alleges Statewide Physical Medicine Group, Inc. billed Medicare and Medicaid for more than $39 million dollars in services in Mississippi from 2000 to 2005.

The government agencies paid out $18 million dollars.

All five were released on $50,000 dollars unsecured bond.
