WLBT 3 - Jackson, MS: First JPS elementary joins national honor society

First JPS elementary joins national honor society

Posted: Updated:

JACKSON, MS (WLBT) - Clausell Elementary School is making history. It's the first elementary school within the Jackson Public School System to establish a chapter of the National Elementary Honor Society or NEHS.

Twenty-four fourth and fifth graders were inducted into the society Wednesday.

The NEHS is a prestigious national student recognition program for outstanding students.

The program promotes excellence in academic achievement, leadership, and service.

Something Clausell Elementary principal Mitchell Shears says each student possesses.

And he wants parents to continue to spread positive reinforcement to their children.

"Encourage parents to continue to mold and shape their students to be high school graduates as well as graduate students," said Shears.

The new adviser for the chapter is Dawn Wells.

Wells was the 2008 recipient of the Mississippi No Child Left Behind American Star of Teaching Award.
