
JACKSON, MS (AP) - Good news on the jobless rate in Mississippi.
The unemployment rate has dropped nearly a percentage point.
Figures released Wednesday by the Mississippi Department of Employment Security show the state's unemployment rate for September was 8.8 percent.
That's down from 9.7 percent in August.
The national rate is 9.8 percent for September.
Of Mississippi's 82 counties, 41 had rates 10 percent or higher unemployment.
The lowest jobless rate in the state was in Rankin County at 5.6 percent.
The highest was in Clay County, which was 17.8 percent.
