Hal and Mal's Restaurant in Jackson hosted the Second Annual Downtown Concert for a Cure. It benefits the Mississippi Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. A silent auction was offered featuring local art, gift certificates, and other items from area vendors. Local musicians like Crossin Dixon and Dena Hopson performed.
"It is important because it is for children. We have had two patients recently die of leukemia and we are out here tonight to raise money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society to raise money for cancer," said the society's spokesperson Ginnie Clingen.
Last year this event raised $5,000 for cancer research. Organizers hope to exceed that amount this year.
