NATCHEZ, Miss. (AP) - Chancery Judge Kennie E. Middleton of Fayette died Thursday at Natchez Regional Medical Center. He was 59. The cause of death was not announced.
Services are 3 p.m. Sunday at Fourth Street Church of Christ in Natchez.
Middleton was senior chancery judge for Adams, Claiborne, Jefferson and Wilkinson counties in southwestern Mississippi. He took office in 1995.
He served two terms as mayor of Fayette before becoming chancellor. He had also served as executive director of the Jefferson Comprehensive Health Center and editor and publisher of the Jefferson County Chronicle.
Middleton graduated from Southern University and earned his law degree from the University of Mississippi.
He is survived by his wife, Claudine Starks Middleton, and sons Kennie Middleton Jr. and Keegan Middleton, all of Fayette; and two sisters.
