Mississippi National Guardsman earns Bronze Star

Posted: Updated:

JACKSON, MS (WLBT) - A Mississippi National Guardsman earns the Bronze Star for sacrificing his life to save others.

Sgt. 1st Class Jesse R. Nicholson was presented the medal Saturday in Jackson. The Pass Christian native was honored for his heroic action in Iraq in February of 2005 while assigned to the First Battalion, 155th Infantry, 155th Brigade Combat Team.

Nicholson walked through a known IED ambush point to force the triggerman to detonate the bomb prior to his convoy's arrival. He was disoriented by the explosion, but still maneuvered through a checkpoint to allow his unit to advance.
