Yazoo County drowning

Posted: Updated:

YAZOO COUNTY, MS (WLBT) - A drowning occurred in Yazoo County over the weekend.

Willie James Haymer, 37, of Benton was fishing with a friend in a boat in Rose Hill Lake. That's off Passons Road north of Bentonia.

The boat overturned and Haymer's fishing partner spent an hour paddling with a tree limb to get to the lake bank and call 9-1-1 from a nearby home. First responders then found Haymer's body in the lake.

Authorities are investigating and an autopsy will be performed. This is Yazoo County's second drowning this year.
