WAYSIDE, MS (WLBT) - A swimmer goes under while in a Washington County lake Saturday prompting rescue crews to begin an hour long search.

Assistant Chief Deputy Billy Barber with the sheriff's department says 26-year-old Roy Barham Jr. Avon suddenly disappeared while in Lake Lee in Wayside. That's about 8 miles south of Greenville.

Deputies were called to the scene around 1:20 Saturday afternoon. Washington County search and rescue found Barham's body around 2:30. He was transported to Delta Regional Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

Witnesses told investigators Barham was intoxicated when he entered the water.
