JACKSON, MS (WLBT) - The man accused of making death threats against President Barack Obama faced a federal judge Monday.
The judge is deciding whether 42-year-old Steven Joseph Christopher is mentally able to stand trial. Christopher is diagnosed with a serious mental disease called "schizo-affective disorder of the bipolar type."A psychologist testified that Christopher isn't able to stand trial because of his disease.
During the hearing, Christopher admitted to making Internet threats against President Obama's life. But he claims he doesn't want to harm the president.
Instead, he says he just wants to get attention.
Christopher claims he is the Messiah and is meant to lead believers to shelter during the apocalypse.
The judge will announce his decision Tuesday morning. Christopher remains in the Madison County Jail.
