Going Green @ JSU

Students were given a budget of $1,500 to develop the campaign but most incurred minimal, if any, expenses preparing their written proposals and oral presentations.

Public relations campaign -- Energy efficiency, recycling, waste, etc.
Description of Project:
Students in the Public Relations Practice class developed going green public relations campaigns as a JSU service-learning project. The campaigns were presented to the students' client, JSU's Department of Facilities and Construction Management.

14 in class divided into 4 groups
List the Goals of the Group Project:
To increase awareness among JSU students, faculty, staff and the surrounding community. Encourage aforementioned publics to change their attitudes, opinions and beliefs about going green.
Additional Information on your project (Optional):
Students not only received a grade in class, they also received service-learning hours through JSU's Community Service/Service-Learning Center.
What are the benefits of your Project:
Aspects of each of the PR campaign are expected to be implemented in the 2009-10 academic year at JSU.
What have you learned from your Project:
The students learned about the importance of "going green" in terms of recycling, reducing energy costs, reducing their carbon footprints, etc. They also learned how to work in groups to develop and present a PR campaign. They learned that PR work can be fun and provide a service to the community.
