RIDGELAND, MS (WLBT) - Bike riding is supposed to be fun and healthy, and there is an organization dedicated to keeping it that way.
Bikers gathered Wednesday for the city of Ridgeland's third annual Ride of Silence in recognition of National Bike Safety Month.
The silent ride honors all cyclists who have been injured or killed by automobiles while riding.
The worldwide event was actually organized in Dallas in 2003 after an endurance cyclist was hit by the mirror of a passing bus and killed.
Wednesday night's cyclists pedaled five miles down Highway 51 to raise awareness that cyclists have a legal right to the public roadways.
