PEARL, MS (WLBT) - Christina Gibson's troubles began the week she moved into a rental home on Greenfield Lane in Pearl's Greenfield Village subdivision.
She says one day the City of Pearl came out and spent hours creating a trench in her front yard that's close to two feet deep.
"Never spoke to me at all," she says of their visit.
Gibson says rain showers have flooded the ditch, and now it's a breeding ground for wildlife. It's full of tadpoles and small fish.
"I have frog larvae, mosquitoes and flies," she says.
Another property, two doors down from Gibson, has a similar problem. Minnows and tadpoles are multiplying, and small dead fish are floating on the surface of the water collecting in the ditch.
Gibson tells us the city hasn't responded much to her complaints about the gaping hole. She's only been told the weather hasn't cooperated enough for the work to continue.
"(Their) intention is to come out, finish up the job. But that's gonna be on another nice day, so this looks like a nice day to me, like many other days," she says, pointing up to sunny skies. "No one is here. A small child could drown in that."
Three On Your Side called the City of Pearl, and found out they're trying to install culverts in the area but they can't cut the street because it would cause problems for too many residents. We were also told weather has been a factor in the delays. But we've been assured the work will resume no later than Monday.
Gibson is hoping the city will finally listen to her pleas.
"Please come cover the hole up, finish the job!" she says.
