JACKSON, MS (WLBT) - WLBT News has been told from several sources that gun sales in the metropolitan area are way up. But when we went to document that, we found gun dealers are not willing to talk on camera about the politics of gun sales and would only agree to to talk to us at all unless we promised to leave the politics of it out.
Kenneth Lancaster, who is in gun sales at Van's Processing in Rankin County told us, "Gun sales are up dramatically, right now. I couldn't really give you a round number but I can tell you they are way up."
Pat Renegar, manager of the Bass Pro store in Pearl told us, "We have been pretty strong, really since hunting season started, we have been going strong and they are still strong today."
National reports indicate an increase in gun sales across the country. One of the reasons given is that some people are concerned that the Obama administration might try to ban certain types of weapons. There is also a greater awareness of self-protection.
