Remembering Dr. King through wreath laying ceremony

JACKSON, MS (WLBT) - People across the country and here in the metro-area gathered Monday to honor and celebrate the life of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. The Capital City kicked off Dr. King’s celebrations early in the day.

People gathered to honor and celebrate the life of Dr. King with a ceremony that was held at freedom corner in Jackson.

The ceremony was to remember all the sacrifices Dr. King made for so many people in the community.

Despite the cold weather, a group of 50 people gathered at the same site that honors both Dr. King and Civil Rights leader Medgar Evers.

They laid wreaths and sang 'We Shall Overcome’, an anthem of the Civil Rights movement.

They closed the ceremony by crossing Medgar Evers Boulevard to lay another wreath.
