JACKSON, MS (WLBT) - Calphrion Vardman, a 19-year-old black man, died Sunday, Jan. 13, 2019, after a shooting in a south Jackson parking lot, according to the city’s police department.
JPD Sgt. Roderick Holmes said officers responded to a call outside Walmart that night.
When police arrived, they found Vardman in the parking lot, shot multiple times.
Investigators believe the shooting stemmed from a sales transaction involving a cell phone which had been listed online.
Officers detained three people -- 28-year-old Terry Haley, 27-year-old Brian Williams and 27-year-old Brandon Williams -- and later charged them with capital murder.
Haley told officers he fired the shots in self defense.
Both Brian and Brandon Williams have no criminal history and were given a $100,000 bond.
Haley’s bond was denied.
