JACKSON, MS (WLBT) - Alcorn State was at Lee E.Williams arena for a Soul Bowl basketball showdown Saturday night. The Braves would catch the Tigers defense sleeping in the first half.
Maurice Howard scored 12 points and drained three-pointers from outside the arc quickly to stun the Tiger bench. JSU was shooting cold in the first half.
But the Tigers buckled down and picked up the tempo. Venjie Wallis' dunk in the second half gave JSU the lead and momentum from the crowd. He had 12 points on the night.
Chris Howell and Jontrell Walker’s 10 points also gave the Tigers some breathing room. The Braves fouled several times in the closing seconds of the game, bringing two Tigers to the free throw line. Howell was 4-4 and McKinnis was 2-2, putting JSU on top.
