Victim identified in deadly I-20 crash

The accident occurred on Interstate 20 eastbound near the Ellis Avenue exit

Jackson police investigating fatal I-20 wreck

JACKSON, MS (WLBT) - Just before 10:30 p.m. Saturday night, Jackson police responded to a fatal, single vehicle accident which occurred on Interstate 20 eastbound near the Ellis Avenue exit.

Hinds County Coroner Sharon Grisham-Stewart confirms the victim as 61-year-old Johnnie Lee Stamps of Clinton.

The vehicle Stamps was riding in, a white sedan, was traveling on I-20 when it left the road, went down an embankment and crashed into a tree.

There were two people in the sedan at the time of the accident, and both had to be extracted from the vehicle.

The 36-year-old male driver suffered serious injuries and was taken to an area hospital. His condition is serious, but stable.

Stamps was pronounced dead at the scene.

This investigation is ongoing.
