Pelahatchie family loses home that has been part of their lives for generations to fire

JACKSON, MS (WLBT) - According to Rankin County Emergency Management Director Mike Word, a Pelahatchie home has been ruled a total loss following a fully-involved structure fire.

The home has been in the family’s lives for generations.

Christopher Banks lived in the house with his wife and three children who are nine, five and two years old.

Banks said he received a phone call a short time after he left Thursday evening that his home, located on Banks Street, was in flames.

There is no word on what started the fire, but family members say it didn’t just take their home, it also took years of memories.

“We’re more concerned about pictures right now and antique frames and pictures of my great grandparents that are in the house,” said Jacqueline Minett. "We all grew up here, so it’s like, almost like losing my grandmother over again to see the house burn down.”

Another family member tells us the house was filled with old lumber that made it burn even faster. She said they were in the process of remodeling.

The family said they are thankful no one was home and no one was hurt.
