Victim, suspect identified in deadly shooting at apartment complex near Edwards

Deadly shooting near Edwards

EDWARDS, MS (WLBT) - One person was shot and killed near Edwards at the Brandon Arms Apartments.

According to the Hinds Co. Sheriff’s Department, they were called just before 10:00 a.m. about someone who had been shot.

The victim has been identified as 23-year-old Joshual Brown.

The suspect, identified as 19-year-old Derrick Riley Jr. of Jackson, has been arrested and charged with murder.

Apparently the two got into an argument, which led to the deadly shooting.

Riley is being held at the Raymond Detention Center.

Residents at the Brandon Arms Apartment complex were alerted around ten o’clock this morning to what sounded like someone “kicking in or banging on a door.”

They came outside to see Joshual Brown on the ground suffering from a gunshot wound to the head.

Residents say they started to help Brown by bringing out towels and other objects to try and stop the bleeding.

Hinds County officials are still investigating what led to the argument.
