Teens charged in weekend shootout with police, kidnapping

JACKSON, MS (WLBT) - According to Sgt. Holmes with Jackson police, a suspect who was arrested in connection with multiple crimes that occurred this past weekend, appeared in court Monday.

Jackson police identified the suspect as 15-year-old Shikell Butler. He is being charged as an adult.

Butler was charged with auto theft and kidnapping related to an incident that happened on Elms Court Circle, and with house burglary and two counts of aggravated assault on a police officer for an incident that happened on Wingfield Drive this past Saturday.

A vehicle was stolen from Elms Court Circle with a child inside the car. Not long after, there was a house burglary on Wingfield Drive. The stolen car was found near this home that had been burglarized. The child was also found unharmed.

When officers went to check on the home that had been burglarized, two males left from the rear of the house. One of the suspects had a handgun and shot at police.

Officers returned fire, hitting one of the suspects. The 18-year-old suspect, who has been identified as Perez Porter, was shot and transported to the hospital, where he was previously listed in serious condition.

Porter has since been released from the hospital and is being charged with two counts of aggravated assault on a police officer, auto theft, house burglary and kidnapping.
