PELAHATCHIE, MS (WLBT) -The city of Pelahatchie officially has a new top cop.
The police department swore in the city’s new police chief at the Knox Ross Community Center, Friday, December 28.
Joseph Daughtry was introduced in front of several chiefs of surrounding counties. Each got an opportunity to give some words of advice on the new job.
Daughtry is a 23 year veteran of the police force, and was formerly a captain of the Hinds County Sheriff’s office.
The new chief announced his first order of business after being sworn in.
“I’m going to organize a business watch, so that I can get all my businesses together, my business owners. In the event of something happening in the middle of the night, I want to be able to know who to contact, after hours and find out what their concerns are. Then from there, I’m going to meet with my churches. I think my first order of business I probably have to say, organizing my chaplain program. Because I believe we got to put God in what we do," said Daughtry.
The new chief says he was humbled by the mayor, and the other cops that were in attendance.
