FLORENCE, MS (WLBT) - Florence High School introduced its new head football coach Tuesday. Rod Davis joins the FHS staff after spending 4 years at Northwest Rankin as their assistant head coach and defensive co-coordinator.
Davis is taking over for Steve Pruett who is retiring after 30 years. Coach Davis is a Southern Miss graduate and Conerly Trophy winner. He also spent a decade playing professionally.
“I have a great opportunity,” Davis said. “I know the road is going to be a little tough at times, but it’s also going to be beautiful at the end. I’m just thrilled to have the opportunity and be here.”
The student athletes at Florence are thrilled to have Davis aboard.
“I think a new person coming in kids of breaks the routine we were stuck in,” Florence football player Kyle Bruce said. “I think this is somebody who can push us over the edge and hopefully bring us to a state championship.”
