OXFORD, MS (WLBT) - Ole Miss appears needing to hire an offensive coordinator just one day after hiring a defensive coordinator.
Phil Longo has left Ole Miss to become the new offensive coordinator for Mack Brown at North Carolina. The news was first reported today by Bruce Feldman of Fox Sports.
Ole Miss finished 9th in the country this year in total offense at 510.5 yards per game. The Rebels also passed for the 5th most yards per game in the country at 346.4 yards per game.
But the Ole Miss offense was heavily scrutinized for its lack of success in the red zone this year. The Rebels scored just 27 touchdowns in 54 trips inside the opponent’s 20-yard line this season.
Longo was hired by Hugh Freeze in December of 2016, and retained by then interim head coach Matt Luke following Freeze’s resignation. Longo left Sam Houston State, where he was offensive coordinator.
