JPS holds job fair to fill teacher vacancies

JPS job fair for teachers

JACKSON, MS (WLBT) - Jackson Public Schools held a job fair Saturday at Kirksey Middle School. District leaders said there are about 50 teacher vacancies.

The district is looking for certified teachers who can teach Math, Science, English and other subjects. Some of the teachers who attended the job fair were hired on the spot.

Maritza Diaz was offered a position to teach Spanish at Provine High School.

“l’m really truly excited to have a job here in Jackson Public Schools, and I look forward to working here and working with the students,” Diaz stated.

Other candidates who did not receive an offer could possibly be hired later.

JPS Recruiter Tommy Nalls Junior said, “Changes occur on a daily basis just like any other job. When teachers have to leave for personal reasons or whatever reasons, we like to have a pool of candidates that we can reach into and fill those positions.”

Some of those teachers hired Saturday will start in January, while others will begin in the Fall of 2019.
