SANTA CLARA, CA (WLBT) - It would be hard to top Nick Mullen’s NFL debut.
The former record-breaking quarterback at Southern Miss, starting for injured 49ers quarterback C.J. Beathard in front of a national TV audience on Thursday Night football, completed 16 of 22 passes for 262 yards and three touchdowns in a 34-3 win over the Raiders.
Trailing 3-0, Mullens completed all three of his passes on San Francisco’s first possession, including a 24-yard touchdown pass to Pierre Garcon. Mullens also connected on touchdown passes to Kendrick Bourne and George Kittle.
If the win wasn’t enough, Twitter verified his account during the game.
Mullens starred at Southern Miss from 2013 to 2016, leaving the program as the Golden Eagles all-time leader in passing yards and touchdowns.
Mullens signed with the 49ers after going undrafted in the 2017 NFL Draft. He spent his entire rookie season on the team’s practice squad.
