JACKSON, MS (WLBT) - More than $225,000 was raised Saturday for breast cancer research Sunday.
Thousands of community residents came together for the American Cancer Society’s Making Strides Against Breast Cancer that was was held in downtown Jackson.
"This event was a moving example how united we can make huge progress toward a world without breast cancer," said Wendy Hutchins, community development manager for the American Cancer Society.
Research shows nearly 250-thousand women and men will be diagnosed with breast cancer this year.Many of the people who particpated in the walk were breast cancer survivors or had a family member who was diagnosed.
Charlotte Pope, attended event"My nieces grandmother she had cancer. She had died from cancer. So, we're out here supporting her," said Charlotte Pope, who attended the event.
The walk not only raises money for breast cancer research but so noone will have to face their diagnosis alone.
