JACKSON, MS (WLBT) - The Rankin County Sheriff’s Department has one person in custody following a Monday night home invasion.
According to Sheriff Bryan Bailey, it happened at approximately 6:15 p.m., in the 400 block of Highway 468 in Brandon.
The suspect has been identified as 24-year-old Monique Reed. The victim described Reed as wearing a wig, a yellow shirt and dark pants.
She is now charged with home invasion, kidnapping and sexual battery.
Sheriff Bailey says the 90-year-old victim was checking her mailbox when the suspect approached her.
She (the victim) walked to her door and was standing there when Reed pushed her inside the house.
Reed is accused of going through the victim’s cabinets and purse, searching for money and wanting to use the phone.
The suspect pushed the victim into a chair and assaulted her, then struck her several times before leaving the home on foot.
Numerous Rankin County deputies and a tracking canine were brought in, and Reed was arrested at 122 Wood Cove in Brandon.
She was transported to the Rankin County jail.
Sheriff Bailey says he is very proud of all the Rankin County deputies and canines, and Rankin County Constable Gary Windham, who responded promptly to the crime and arrested the suspect in less than two hours.
