CLINTON, MS (WLBT) - Construction continues at the site of the new Continental Tire plant in Hinds County near Clinton. Its training center is almost finished along Interstate 20 near Norrell Road, and it will be the first stop for potential employees.
The company hopes to employ a total of 2,500 people by 2028, but it’s starting small. Continental’s human-resources director for the Clinton plant, Marco Will, says they’re looking for 30 operators for they shop floor by the end of 2018, one-hundred more by the end of 2019, and four-hundred more by the end of 2020.
Will says operators need a high-school degree or General Equivalency Degree (GED), at least one year of manufacturing experience, and a National Career Readiness Certificate (NCRC). Will says since the plant is not up and running yet, the first batch of operators will be sent to other Continental plants for at least three months of training. That training could take place in Illinois and/or in eastern Europe. Continental is based in Hanover, Germany.
Will says anyone interested in working for the company must first fill out an application online. “Showing up with a resume and paper will not help to speed up the process," he says. "The best way is to sign-in online and make your application online, and then we will ensure that no application gets lost on the way.” The website with job and application information is www.continental-jobs.com.
Applicants selected for interviews will be invited to the training center, which Will says will open in early November. Once the plant is up an running, the company initially plans to make truck tires.
