Grandmother in custody after baby stabbed, baked in oven

SHAW, MS (WTVA) - One person is in custody after a baby was stabbed, placed in an oven and baked, according to the Bolivar County sheriff.

According to the Bolivar County Deputy Coroner Murray Roark, the grandmother of the child was arrested.

WTVA reports that the grandmother, Carolyn Jones, was charged with first degree murder.

The Deputy Coroner Roark says the child was 20-month-old Royalty Marie Floyd. She was living with her grandmother at the time of the murder.

WTVA reports that emergency dispatchers received the call from a relative after 7 p.m. on Monday, Sheriff Kelvin Williams said.

Police and sheriff’s deputies found the baby at a residence on Martin Luther King Drive in Shaw, MS. The baby’s age is unclear at this time.

WTVA says the suspect sits at the Bolivar County Regional Correctional Facility, according to Williams.

The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation and the State Crime Lab have been called to investigate.

Deputy Coroner Roark says he is on his way to Pearl now to take the body to the state crime lab for an autopsy.

WTVA reports that Jones is being held at the Bolivar County Regional Correctional Facility on a $500,000.
