JACKSON, MS - Sports programs for children in Yazoo City are in peril over severe budget cuts.
The Department of Parks and Recreation will have to cut at least one position and some of the sports programs for the next fiscal year.
Parks Director Cedric Hudson says the Department’s budget went from $130,000 in 2017 to $92,000 this fiscal year, and it will be slashed to less than $75,000 next fiscal year.
Hudson believes the flag football program and a baseball program will have to be cut out for 2019.
He says right now, the department is managing with a part-time secretary, two grounds workers, and a seasonal grounds worker. He believes the seasonal worker will have to be cut, and maybe more.
We have reached out to Mayor Diane Delaware for comment.
