JACKSON, MS (WLBT) - Two 2-year-olds and a woman were shot on Bailey Avenue in Jackson Wednesday morning in a drive-by shooting on Bailey Avenue.
Jackson police Sgt. Roderick Holmes says the woman was leaving a home with the two toddlers when a car drove by and someone shot at them.
The woman suffered a leg injury and is in stable condition. The little boy was shot in the hand is in stable condition. The little girl was shot in the abdomen and underwent surgery. She is currently listed in critical condition.
According to Jackson police, the 23-year-old woman is the mother of the two-year-old girl, but not the two-year-old boy.
Jaqueline Cannon lives in the neighborhood and was shaken up from abruptness of the shooting and the fact that it involved two young children.
“It’s actually a shocking, because it doesn’t happen like this all the time," said Cannon. "It’s actually quiet around this neighborhood and like I said I just keep the kids, the little children in prayer. It brings tears to my eyes, but you know it’s just shocking, it really is.”
Officers actively canvassed the area in an attempt to identify a potential suspect or vehicle that may have been involved. A motive and suspect(s) still remain unknown however, no other residents or homes in the area appeared to have been injured or damaged during the incident.
