CLINTON, MS (WLBT) - A lot can change in a year.
This time last season, the Clinton Arrows were sitting at 2-2. But right now, they’re undefeated.
“I think they’re more focused,” says head coach Judd Boswell. “They don’t think it’s OK to lose. That’s the mentality they have and they’ve pulled out some big victories along the way. I couldn’t be more happy with where they are mentally right now.”
But what’s next up for the Arrows is a trip to The Jungle to face Madison Central. The Arrows failed to score a touchdown against the rival Jaguars in 2017.
“I remember that it really didn’t go our way,” says senior Desmyn Baker. “The leadership just wasn’t there, so we didn’t play well.”
The Arrows will have to stop Madison Central’s star quarterback Jimmy Holiday, who this season has thrown for 362 yards and 8 touchdowns.
“It’s never bout one guy,” says Boswell, “but they have Jimmy Holiday who’s a really good athlete. He runs the offense well. Their offensive line is really good, as well. We have our hands full up front.”
Boswell says his team embraces an underdog role.
“I hope people keep picking against us,” says Boswell. “That kind of helps us out a little bit.”
Clinton is only one of three schools in 6A yet to lose a game this fall, all the more reason to come out on top this Friday night.
“It’s a big week for them,” says Boswell, “but it’s a division ball game so whatever it takes we have to get it done.”
