JACKSON, MS (WLBT) - Kyisha Wofford, a 26-year-old black woman, died Sunday, Sept. 16, after a shooting on Marwood Drive, according to Jackson police.
JPD Sgt. Roderick Holmes said police arrived to the home, located in the 3000 block, and found 22-year-old Maurice Forte sitting out front in a wheelchair.
A gun believed to be the murder weapon was laying on the ground beside him.
JPD Interim Chief James Davis said Forte initially told the officers he shot someone, then changed the story and said he shot three people.
Afterward, investigators walked to the back of the home and found one victim outside. Two others were inside the home.
All three victims were related to Forte.
Police identified them as 67-year-old Eddie Mae Wofford, his grandmother; 49-year-old Miyuki Wofford, his mother; and Kyisha Wofford, his sister.
Hinds County Coroner Sharon Grisham-Stewart said Kyisha Wofford was reportedly pregnant at the time.
Davis said police had been called to the home multiple times before Sunday’s shooting, but didn’t offer further details.
Forte has been charged with three counts of murder, but that could change once law enforcement officials confirm Kyisha’s pregnancy.
