Later in the morning, officers saw a suspect on Eastwood Drive, across across from the high school.

They identified him as Tevis Weeks of Florence.

Police say he fled from officers when they approached him.

Officers gave chase but lost Weeks in a wooded area.

A manhunt for him lasted for hours but they were unable to locate him.

The schools were taken off lockdown before students were released for the day.

Many officers remaining in the area as a precaution.

“Were protecting kids, nothing happened at the school,” said Florence police chief Richard Thomas.

Rankin County Sheriff Bryan Bailey brought in extra deputies and off-road vehicles during the search.

Bailey said he knows the suspect very well from previous arrests.
