OXFORD, MS (WLBT) - One of the top school-produced weekly programs in college sports will now be aired on national television, as “The Season: Ole Miss Football” will be televised by ESPNU in addition to being available on the ESPN app upon first airing.
Beginning this week, the Emmy award-winning series will premiere each Friday of the football season at 11:30 a.m. CT on ESPNU, with the preceding week’s episode airing immediately before at 11 a.m. It marks the first time in the network’s history it has carried a school-produced weekly show in its entirety.
The program also airs on several regional channels throughout the Southeast (affiliate list below), while debuting each Wednesday at 6 p.m. at TheSeasonOleMiss.com.
“When we started producing ‘The Season’ years ago, our goal was, and remains today, to personalize and humanize Rebel student-athletes and coaches to as many people as possible,” said Michael Thompson, Ole Miss Deputy Athletics Director. “Being the first school-produced weekly show picked up by ESPN certainly helps share the Ole Miss brand with exponentially more viewers and also validates the incredibly hard work that our team puts into storytelling each and every week.”
In its eight seasons on the air, “The Season: Ole Miss Football” has provided fans an in-depth view into the Rebel program with highlights of the previous week’s game in addition to going inside the locker room, training room, practice fields and classrooms from the viewpoint of the student-athletes and coaches. The Ole Miss Sports Productions staff also delivers personal features that include visits to the players’ houses, hangouts and hometowns for a truly intimate experience.
The show has picked up numerous awards since its creation in 2011, including Southeast Regional Emmy awards in 2014 and 2015 for best daily or weekly sports program and a Gold AVA Award in 2012 for outstanding achievement by creative professionals involved in the concept, direction, design and production of media. Most recently in June of 2018, the show received two Southeast Regional Emmys for Short Form Editing and Photography.
Ole Miss produces “The Season” episodes for each of its sports teams, as well as numerous other video pieces such as student-athlete features, event promos, highlight packages, commercials and in-venue pieces in addition to live videoboard shows for home sporting events.
“The Season: Ole Miss Football” is directed by senior producer Chris Sabo, who also serves as executive producer alongside associate A.D. Micah Ginn, assistant A.D. Shane Sanford and Thompson.
